Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali joins hands with BSNL to launch ‘Swadeshi Samriddhi’ SIM cards

“These SIM cards will also offer medical and life insurance covers of Rs 2.5 lakhs and Rs 5 lakhs, respectively”

Over the last few years, Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali has established itself as one of the fastest and largest Fast Moving Consumer Goods brand in India. On Sunday, Baba Ramdev announced that the brand has now joined hands with state-run BSNL to make a foray in the telecom sector with the launch of ‘Swadeshi Samriddhi’ SIM cards.

In the announcement tweet, Patanjali Ayurved’s Twitter handle said that initially, only the company employees and officials will be able to avail the benefits of the SIM card. If the SIM cards turn out to be a success, they will be made available to general public. Along with regular benefits, these SIM cards will offer a 10 percent discount on the purchase of Patanjali products. According to the ANI report, the Swadeshi Samriddhi SIM card users will get 2GB data and unlimited calls with SMSes on a recharge of Rs 144. However, the duration of the plan isn’t known yet. If the SIM cards are made available to the public, they can be obtained from over 5 lakh BSNL counters across the country.

Another interesting aspect of these SIM cards is that they will come with medical and life insurance covers of Rs 2.5 lakhs and Rs 5 lakhs, respectively, as per the report. Notably, the insurance could only be availed in case of a road accident.

Patanjali’s plan is BSNL’s best plan. In Rs 144, one can make unlimited calls from any part of the country. We are giving 2 GB data pack, 100 SMSs. The members of the Patanjali has to just show their identity and there SIM will be activated soon after some paperwork,” Sunil Garg, Chief General Manager at BSNL, was quoted as saying by ANI.
