Exclusive: Vivo APEX with full-screen display expected to launch in India soon

The Chinese electronics giant Vivo today launched its under-display fingerprint sensor-toting smartphone, the X21, in India. On the sidelines of the product launch event, 91mobiles had conversations with a company official, as well as other sources who have information on the brand’s future plans for India. The official who wish not to be named, revealed that the brand is planning to launch its futuristic Vivo APEX flagship in the Indian market in the near future. 

The source further indicated that the brand has launched the X21 for testing waters in the premium smartphone territory. If the smartphone performs well enough in the country, then the brand will be bringing the Vivo APEX in the Indian market very soon. However, if the X21 doesn’t perform as per the company’s expectations, then the APEX’s launch might be delayed in the country.

For uninitiated, the Vivo APEX concept smartphone was introduced at MWC 2018 in Barcelona earlier this year. The phone is rumoured to be launched commercially at an event in China on June 12th as the Vivo NEX. Reports indicate that there could be two processor variants of the handset – one with a Snapdragon 845 SoC and the other with the newly-launched Snapdragon 710 processor. The rumour mill also suggests that one of the phone’s models could feature a pop-out camera and the other variant would have a normal selfie shooter. Just like the Vivo X21, the APEX also boasts an under-screen fingerprint sensor.

As for the Vivo X21, the high-end offering flaunts a 6.28-inch Super AMOLED full HD+ display with an impressive screen-to-body ratio of 90.3 percent. The handset is fuelled by a Snapdragon 660 SoC, and gets 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. At the rear, the phone has a dual-camera setup comprising a 12MP snapper and a 5MP shooter, while a 24MP sensor takes care of selfie requirements. A 3,200mAh battery keeps the Android Oreo-powered handset running. 

The Vivo X21 has been priced at Rs 35,990, and comes in Ruby Red, Black, and Aurora White colour options. The phone will be available to buy exclusively on Flipkart.
