MIUI 10: here’s everything we know so far about Xiaomi’s upcoming Android-based platform
“Xiaomi MIUI 10 is expected to add a bunch of intelligent features to the speed of MIUI 9”
Xiaomi has recently sent out media invites for its upcoming 2018 Annual Product Launch Event to be held in China on May 31st. The handset maker has confirmed that it will be taking the covers off multiple product at the event, and we’re expecting to see the Xiaomi Mi 8, Mi 7, and Mi Band 3 being unveiled. At the same event, Xiaomi is also expected to announce the next iteration of its custom platform based on Android – MIUI 10. If you’re wondering what the upcoming platform refresh will bring to the table, then here’s everything we know so far about MIUI 10.
Xiaomi MIUI 10: Android version
The current-generation MIUI 9 is based on Android 7.1 Nougat, so it’d be safe to assume that the upcoming MIUI 10 will be using Android Oreo at its core. This means that the new update will bring features like faster booting, picture-in-picture (PIP), adaptive icons, and smarter autofill. We can also expect Google Play Protect and other under-the-hood improvements from Android Oreo to be included in MIUI 10.
Xiaomi MIUI 10: what to expect?
Xiaomi claims that MIUI 9 is the fastest platform from the brand till now. With MIUI 10, Co-Founder and Vice President Hong Feng said that brand will focus on things MIUI 9 missed out on, a built-in voice assistant for example. He hinted that the next iteration of the software will be quite intelligent, and offer the same speed as MIUI 9. We expect the upcoming iteration of the MIUI platform to feature a smart voice assistant, AI and machine learning capabilities. Interestingly, the Chinese giant unveiled its proprietary voice assistant earlier this year, dubbed Xiao AI. While it could be integrated into MIUI 10, the assistant is exclusive to China at the moment.
Xiaomi MIUI 10: release date and availability
As is customary with the brand, the upcoming platform update will be rolled out first on its home soil, followed by other major markets including India. It’s speculated that Xiaomi will start releasing MIUI 10 in China sometime in June. India and other global markets should start receiving the next build of MIUI in July or August.
Xiaomi MIUI 10: expected eligible devices
While MIUI 9 was rolled out to most of the smartphone models in Xiaomi’s lineup, the company has announced that at least seven devices will not receive any further updates. These smartphones include the Mi 2 / 2S, Mi 4i, Redmi Note, Redmi Note Prime, Redmi 2, Redmi 2 Prime, and Mi Note. Base on this bit of information, we can assume that the following phones will be in line for getting the upcoming MIUI 10 update.
