Xiaomi Mi VR Standalone headset launched in China in collaboration with Oculus

“The Mi VR Standalone headset is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor”

In the past few years, Xiaomi launched a handful of virtual reality headsets under the Mi VR series, which require a smartphone to work. Today, at its 8th-anniversary event in China, the company has unveiled its first standalone VR headset. The Chinese electronics giant has developed the Mi VR Standalone headset in partnership with Facebook’s Oculus division.

As its name implies, the Xiaomi Mi VR Standalone headset doesn’t require a smartphone or any other extra piece of hardware in order to work. The headset comes with a fast switch screen bearing a resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels. The accessory is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor, mated to 3GB of RAM. The headset comes in 32GB and 64GB storage variants. The wearable also comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack, and is virtually compatible with every third-party audio accessory on the market. The headset is fuelled by a 2,600mAh battery.

The Xiaomi Mi VR Standalone headset also comes bundled with an intuitive remote controller. The company says that over 100 virtual reality games are available for the Mi VR Standalone headset. The device supports the Oculus Mobile SDK, which allows Oculus developers to launch their content for the Mi VR.

The Xiaomi Mi VR Standalone headset’s 32GB storage variant has been priced at RMB 1,500 (~Rs 15,800), while it’s 64GB model is being offered for RMB 1,800 (~Rs 18,900). Sadly, the brand hasn’t confirmed if the headset will be released in other regions.
