Exclusive: first batch of Made in India Jio Phone finally reaches warehouses

“Reliance Jio has finally started manufacturing the budget 4G-enabled Jio Phone in India”

Ever since Reliance Jio launched the 4G-enabled feature phone called the Jio Phone last year, the company has been manufacturing the device in China. At its launch, the Mukesh Ambani-led firm revealed that the brand will be making the Jio Phone in India in the coming months. In December last year, there were reports that Reliance Jio has started manufacturing the Jio Phone (first impressions) at one of its facilities in India, but it wasn’t officially confirmed. However, 91mobiles has learned from industry sources that the vendor has finally kicked off the production of India-made Jio Phone.

Our sources suggest that Reliance Jio has started manufacturing the Jio Phone in India only recently. Now the proper production of the India-made Jio Phone in on full swing. The phone is being manufactured by MCM Telecom in the country. We have learned that the first batch of the Made in India Jio Phone has been shipped to the company’s warehousing facilities, and will be made available in retail channels in the coming days. As per our sources, the brand is manufacturing the F61 variant of the Jio Phone in the country (pictured above).

91mobiles reached out to Reliance Jio to find out how many units of the Jio Phone every day and per month were being made in its manufacturing facility in the country. However, the company hasn’t yet provided an official statement at the moment. We will update you more on the matter as soon as we hear anything officially, so stay tuned.

The Jio Phone quickly managed to catch everyone’s attention soon after its launch because it’s available for the effective price of Rs 0. According to a report by Counterpoint, the Jio Phone was the best-selling feature phone globally in the first quarter of this year. The phone took the first spot with a massive 35.9 percent market share in India. The company is now expected to introduce more such devices later this year.
