MediaTek to launch a quad-core, entry-level mobile chipset by August
“The brand will also launch the P60 successor by the end of this year”
Taiwanese chipmaker MediaTek has launched two mobile chipsets this year – the Helio P22 and the P60, bringing AI capabilities and small form factors (12nm fabrication process) to the mid-budget and upper mid-tier segments. But that’s not it. Speaking exclusively to 91mobiles at the sidelines of its Computex event, TL Lee, the company’s General Manager for the Wireless Business Group, mentioned that the brand will be launching another SoC very soon.
The new chipset will have a quad-core configuration and will be targeted at the entry-level segment. While Lee isn’t sure whether the chip will be launched in its MTK series or the Helio P range, he did confirm that the SoC will go official as soon as July or August this year. We also asked him about the brand’s mobile chipset roadmap for the coming months. Lee mentioned that MediaTek will be introducing a successor to its flagship P60 chipset by the end of this year. However, that will only be commercially available in smartphones from next year.
Upon asking whether MediaTek has plans to launch another chip with the 10nm fabrication process, considering the company launched the deca-core Helio X30 two years back, Lee said that the chipmaker is working to bring a chip with a 7nm die size. However, he couldn’t reveal a timeline for the launch of the same.
