Vivo NEX with 6.59-inch FHD+ display and retractable selfie camera goes official

“Vivo is offering NEX in two variants with Snapdragon 845 and the latest Snapdragon 710 chipset”

Chinese handset maker Vivo showcased its futuristic concept phone – APEX at the MWC 2018 held earlier this year. What started as a much-anticipated journey towards one of the most hyped smartphones of recent times followed by a number of leaks and rumours, reached its culmination today. Vivo has finally gone ahead and launched the Vivo NEX and NEX Ultimate at an event held in China today.

Vivo NEX

Speaking of the Vivo NEX Ultimate first, the smartphone ships with a 6.59-inch Ultra FullView FHD+ display with an aspect ratio of 19.3:9. The handset offers a screen-to-body ratio of 91.24 percent. To achieve this, Vivo has used proprietary Screen SoundCasting technology for audio delivery and hidden sensors. On the performance front, the handset comes powered by the top-tier Snapdragon 845 processor. The chipset is further mated to 8GB of RAM and either 128GB or 256GB of native storage, which can be further expanded using a microSD card. Moving on to the camera department, the NEX Ultimate flaunts a 12-megapixel + 5-megapixel dual camera module at the rear and an 8-megapixel elevating selfie camera on the top.

Out of the box, the NEX Ultimate will boot Android 8.1 Oreo and is powered by a 4,000mAh battery. The handset comes with the third-generation under-display fingerprint scanner for security, which Vivo claims to be 50 percent more accurate and 10 percent faster.

Vivo NEX

Moving on to the Vivo NEX, the smartphone comes with the same display panel as the high-end variant. However, in the performance department, the smartphone comes with the latest Snapdragon 710 chipset, which is the latest from Qualcomm. The smartphone also gets lesser RAM in comparison as it gets 6GB as compared to the 8GB on NEX S and 128GB storage. Further, the affordable variant comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and gives the under-display biometrics a miss. Rest of the specs are same as the top model. Both smartphones also get Vivo’s advanced voice assistant called Jovi with a dedicated physical button.

Vivo is offering the NEX in two colour options – black and red. The Vivo NEX Ultimate will set you back by RMB 4498 (~Rs 47,000) for 128GB model, whereas, the high-end variant comes with a sticker price of RMB 4,998 (~Rs 52,700). The Vivo NEX, on the other hand. will retail for RMB 3,898 (~Rs 41,000).
