JioPhone 2 gets dedicated WhatsApp, Facebook and YouTube apps
“Reliance has been working on bringing WhatsApp to JioPhone for a while now”
Reliance launched its JioPhone (first impressions), a 4G and VoLTE-enabled feature phone at its 40th AGM event last year. Since then, the brand has been working on adding more and more features to the feature phone. The KaiOS powered phone received Google Assistant and a customised Facebook app at later stages. The telco has been working on bringing the most popular instant messaging app, WhatsApp for a while now but so far there was no news. However, that changes today, as the brand announced at its 41st AGM that the second generation JioPhone will get dedicated social media apps.
At the event today, Akash and Isha Ambani took to the stage to announce the launch of the JioPhone 2. While the JioPhone 2 brings a couple of interesting features like a full QWERTY keyboard and an attractive price tag, the more exciting announcement comes in the form of dedicated social media apps. The telecom operator revealed that the KaiOS-powered second generation Reliance JioPhone will come with dedicated WhatsApp, Facebook and YouTube apps pre-installed.

This comes as good news for those who were interested in the original JioPhone but didn’t end up buying it because of the missing support for the instant messaging platform. With over 1.5 billion monthly active users of WhatsApp, Reliance JioPhone 2 is likely to be more successful than its predecessor. Speaking of JioPhone 2, the handset comes with 2.4-inch QVGA display, KaiOS, 512MB RAM, 4GB storage, a 2,000mAh battery, a 2MP rear camera and a 0.3MP selfie shooter.
The telecom operator has priced the latest JioPhone at Rs 2,999 and it is slated to go on sale in India starting August 15th. Reliance is also offering a Monsoon Hungama offer, in which you can exchange an old feature phone for the new JioPhone 2 by paying Rs 501.
