New leaked image reveals Apple iPhone’s 18W USB-C power adapter
“Apple has been shipping iPhones with slower 5W adapters so far”
In the recent past, rumours surrounding Apple devices have been aplenty, including ones claiming that the brand will launch three iPhones this year. These include one with a 5.8-inch OLED display, a larger model with a 6.5-inch OLED panel, and a relatively affordable variant with a 6.1-inch TFT LCD. We have already seen dummy models of all three variants in a recent leak. Now, a set of new images have revealed a feature that Apple fans have been waiting for since a while now.
Apple has been shipping its iPhones with the standard 5W power adapter in the past, even when the newer models came with support for fast charging. However, it seems that things are about to change now. The latest leaked image has revealed what looks like an engineering prototype of the USB Type-C compatible power adapter, which is speculated to come with this year’s iPhones. The design of the charger is in line with previous Apple adapters, however, the newly leaked device seems to be slightly thicker.
Moving on to the text on the adapter, the model number is seen to be A1720, in line with Apple’s numbering scheme. The power output of the adapter has been listed as up to 5V at 3A (15W) or 9V at 2A (18W). Apart from the new iPhones, the Cupertino giant is also speculated to offer the new charger with its next-generation iPads. Notably, Apple iPads typically ship with a 10-12W adapter.
Apple is slated to launch the next-generation of iPhones in fall this year around September. We will bring you accurate details when the brand unveils the device, so stay tuned.
