OPPO Find X finds itself helpless against the bend test
“The OPPO Find X is one of the most innovative smartphones to come in recent times with its motorised camera section”
OPPO made the world sit up and take notice when it launched the Find X (first impressions) earlier this year. This could be attributed to the fact that the smartphone looks like a single slab of a glass and the ingenious motorised section on top hides all three cameras (two rear and one front) along with the 3D face recognition module. The popular YouTuber, Zack from JerryRigEverything performed his usual rigorous battery of tests on the handset. Zack proclaims in the video that while he only tests high-end flagships, he couldn’t ignore the latest launch from OPPO. However, to Zack’s and everyone’s collective dismay, every fear regarding the durability of the handset turned out to be true.
Right off the bat, the YouTuber points out that the top motorised section of the smartphone, when out, wiggles quite a bit. This means that there is enough space there to easily collect dust and lint inside the moving part, which was everyone’s first concern when the handset came out. Moving on to the scratch test, the display gets scratched at level 6 on the Mohs scale and gets much deeper grooves at the level 7. The same is expected of the back panel as Find X comes with Gorilla Glass 5 on both sides.

Next up, the AMOLED display on the Find X survives against the open flame for a full 14 seconds before turning white at the point of contact. Notably, unlike LCD displays, the pixels on AMOLED displays do not recover from the open flame test. The actual shocker comes in the form of the bend test, where the OPPO Find X flexed far more than other smartphones with similar glass and metal builds. What’s more surprising was that the handset never stopped bending despite having a metal skeleton and ended up with both its display and rear panel cracked. According to Zack, the pressure applied was the same as all other smartphones he had tested in the past, but Find X found itself in the 10 percent of smartphones that ended up broken and graced the infamous wall of shame.
If you still think that the phone sporting that gorgeous design and the unique motorised camera is worth the tradeoff, you will need to be super careful while handling the handset. The Find X has been priced at Rs 59,990 and will be available to buy on Flipkart and offline stores across India. The handset will go on pre-orders starting July 30th and will be up for grabs from August 3rd. OPPO is offering the Find X in Bordeaux Red and Glacier Blue colours.
