Qualcomm’s upcoming SoC to be reportedly called Snapdragon 720

“The Snapdragon 720 will come with higher clock speed, joined by NPU and a couple of AI improvements”

Qualcomm, the largest chipset maker, announced its new Snapdragon 710 chipset – the first of its kind –  back in February at MWC 2018. It’s a mid-range SoC that is said to bring flagship-like experience to cheaper devices. Now, as reported in the Chinese micro-blogging site, Weibo, the new chipset in the series is under work, and it is allegedly dubbed as the Snapdragon 720. The said silicone is expected to bridge the gap between the SD 710 and upcoming rumoured SD 730

According to the leakster, Snapdragon 720 will be an enhanced version of Snapdragon 710. The chipset will achieve this with the main frequency clocking at the highest of 2.2Ghz, built-in NPU, and a couple of improvements on the AI front. He didn’t mention any hardware details of the silicone but was quick to add that Samsung will be the first OEM to mass produce Snapdragon 720 powered phones.

The information on the Snapdragon 720 is very scarce at the moment. However, since the SoC will be part of the Qualcomm 700-series, it won’t differ from its sibling SD 710 radically. The SoC is built on Samsung’s 10nm LPE process and features a total of eight cores – six Kryo 360 Silver cores operating at 1.70GHz and two Kryo 360 Gold cores clocked at 2.20GHz. The chip integrates Adreno 616 GPU, X15 LTE modem, and support for AR and AI.
