Sony Xperia XZ2 allegedly spotted on GFXBench with a whopping 48-megapixel rear camera
“Sony’s upcoming flagship could flaunt its latest IMX586 camera sensor”
Sony recently introduced its latest IMX586 camera sensor for smartphones. The latest IMX offering arrived as the world’s first camera lens to come with 48 effective megapixels integrated into one sensor. Now it appears that the company has started testing a smartphone with its latest camera sensor.
A Sony smartphone with the model number H8416 has appeared on the benchmarking website GFXBench. This device is expected to be the upcoming Xperia XZ3 flagship. Interestingly, the phone has been benchmarked featuring a whopping 47-megapixel resolution. As you might know, benchmarking apps have the tendency of collecting slightly different information regarding the actual specs of a device, but it’s likely the recently launched Sony IMX586 camera sensor.
As of now, it’s not clear if the commercial variant of the Sony Xperia XZ3, which is expected to arrive at IFA 2018 in September, will be launching with the IMX586 sensor. So, this particular device on GFXBench could just be a prototype variant of the Xperia XZ3.
The Sony H8416 has been benchmarked with a 5.7-inch display, bearing a resolution of 2,160 x 1,080p. The device has Android Oreo, a 2.7GHz octa-core Snapdragon 845 processor, 6GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage. The front camera has been mentioned to carry a 12MP sensor.
Sony will be holding its IFA press event on August 30th, where the brand is expected to launch a couple of Xperia smartphones – both mid-range and flagships. So it’s just a little over a month remains until the event to find out if Sony is really planning to launch the Xperia XZ3 with its latest camera sensor.
