HMD Global hosting event on August 21st in India; could launch the Nokia 6.1 Plus

HMD Global, the home of Nokia phones, has been teasing the launch of the new device in India for the past couple of weeks. Now, it has rolled out the press invite for its August 21st event, where it is expected to unveil the much-awaited Nokia 6.1 Plus in the country. The handset is the first notch-toting display smartphone from Nokia. It first debuted in China earlier this year as the Nokia X6 (first impression) and was recently announced in Hong Kong as the Nokia 6.1 Plus. 

Coming to the specifications, the Nokia 6.1 Plus is an Android One smartphone and runs on stock-Android Oreo out of the box. The handset sports a 5.8-inch full HD+ (1,080 x 2,280 pixels) display with an aspect ratio of 19:9 and 2.5D Gorilla Glass 3 for protection on top. At its heart lies Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 octa-core chipset paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB native storage. The latter is expandable up to 400GB via hybrid microSD card slot.

On the imaging front, the 6.1 Plus equips a dual 16MP + 5MP sensors on the rear with LED flash and ‘Bothie’ feature. Its front camera is a 16-megapixel shooter for selfies and video calling optimised with AI that is touted to boost results. Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth v5.0, GPS, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a USB Type-C port. A rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and 3,060mAh battery Quick Charge 3.0 complete the Nokia 6.1 Plus specs sheet.

Meanwhile, there are also reports that the company might unveil its affordable Nokia 5.1 alongside. The handset features a 5.5-inch, 18:9 display bearing an HD+ resolution. The device runs on the MediaTek Helio P18 chipset and comes with 16MP and 8MP rear and front cameras, respectively. 

HMD Global hasn’t divulged the India pricing of the Nokia 6.1 Plus and Nokia 5.1 as of now.
