OPPO R17’s alleged images suggest the presence of an in-display fingerprint sensor

“The R17 is expected to have dual rear cameras and a high screen-to-body aspect ratio”

Chinese phone maker, OPPO is set to launch its next mid-range smartphones. The company has been teasing the F9 and F9 Pro duo in India and other markets, and for its home soil, it could announce the R17 and R17 Pro smartphones. Most recently, the new R series phones were leaked to reveal a tall display and a dual-camera setup at the back. Now, a fresh image of OPPO R17 has surfaced on the interwebs that confirms the phone won’t have a fingerprint sensor on the rear but rather at the front, under the display.

According to the latest pictures, the OPPO R17’s fascia will be dominated by the display, just like the Find X (review), but with a tiny notch up top — referred to as ‘Waterdrop’ cut-out by the brand  and a slim bezel at the bottom. The fingerprint icon on the OPPO screen panel hints towards an in-display fingerprint sensor. If so, the R17 could be the first smartphone from OPPO’s stables to flaunt the optical scanner. Meanwhile, the rear-side of the handset can be seen with a glass panel, vertically-stacked dual cameras, with LED flash below and the branding towards the middle.

As for the specifications, the OPPO R17 specifications are very scarce at the moment. A couple of leaks suggest that the phone is likely to feature a 6.3-inch display and 3,415mAh battery with VOOC fast charging support.

An interesting trivia for the readers — OnePlus has a history of following the design language of OPPO’s R series. The OPPO R15, launched earlier this year, set the design benchmark for the OnePlus 6, though the device went for a different approach as far as the rear camera placement is concerned. So the R17’s aesthetics might pave a way for the design of the OnePlus 6T…
