Reliance JioPhone gets official YouTube app, WhatsApp and Facebook to follow shortly

“The Reliance JioPhone will get KaiOS exclusive YouTube, WhatsApp and Facebook apps”

Last month, at its 41st Annual General Meet, Reliance announced the successor to the JioPhone (first impressions) –  JioPhone 2. At the same event, the brand also announced that both these smartphones will get KaiOS optimised WhatsApp, Facebook and YouTube apps. Soon after, the telco rolled out an important software update for the JioPhone, which brings support for Google Maps. Now, the second wave of official apps for the first generation feature phone has started rolling out.

The brand had announced that the apps would be made available for these feature phones starting August 15th. The official YouTube app for the first generation JioPhone has already been made available starting today. To install the app, users will have to head to the KaiOS store on their feature phone and search for YouTube. Once installed, they will have to sign in with their Google account and start using it. According to a recent report, WhatsApp and Facebook will be made available on the KaiOS store shortly. Notably, the first generation feature phone, while offering attractive data packs, lacked the support for social media apps. This was one of the reasons why JioPhone didn’t take off widely in the country.

Reliance JioPhone 2

Coming to the JioPhone 2, it will be made available in India starting August 15th. The new feature phone will come with a refreshed design featuring a full QWERTY keyboard. The phone is likely to come with the apps pre-installed and the QWERTY keyboard will make it convenient for texting. The JioPhone 2 comes with a 2.4-inch QVGA display with 320 x 240 pixels resolution. The handset runs KaiOS and offers 512MB RAM with 4GB of native storage, expandable up to 128GB. The camera department includes a 2MP rear snapper and a VGA front shooter. The connectivity features on the dual-SIM device include 4G VoLTE support, VoWi-Fi, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, NFC and FM radio. It comes powered by a 2,000mAh battery.

The JioPhone 2 will go on sale in India starting tomorrow and will set you back by Rs 2,999. It will be available at major retail outlets as well as Reliance stores across the country.
