6.5-inch iPhone XR might be delayed, Apple Watch 4 to support LTE on all models: Ming Chi Kuo
“The noted Apple analyst also predicted that the iPad Pro will come with USB Type-C port for the very first time”
Ming-Chi Kuo of the KGI Securities fame (and currently with TF Securities) is known for his accurate predictions when it comes to Apple products. The noted analyst earlier predicted that the next-generation Apple iPhones will be coming with a new Gold hue and the more affordable 6.1-inch iPhone will be offered in a number of peppy colours. Now, a day ahead of the official unveiling of the 2018 iPhones, Kuo has made a slew of predictions, including the fact that the 6.1-inch LCD variant is likely to get delayed, the iPad Pro will feature USB Type-C and more.
According to the latest report from Kuo, Apple will launch the 6.1-inch LCD-toting iPhone, rumoured to be called iPhone XR in late September or early October. This is because of the issues with the quality of assembly and display. Notably, the affordable iPhone is slated to be announced alongside an updated 5.8-inch OLED model called the iPhone XS and an even larger 6.5-inch OLED model, likely to be called iPhone XS MAX, on September 12th. Recently, a new telecom ad has been spotted in China (via GSMArena) revealing that the upcoming iPhones are likely to come with dual-SIM support. However, the ad didn’t reveal which model, and it’s a possibility that the dual-SIM iPhone(s) are limited to the China market.
The Cupertino giant is also expected to launch the fourth-generation Apple Watch at the same event. Kuo predicts that all variants of the Apple Watch this year will come with ceramic backs, meaning they will all support LTE. Moreover, the new Apple Watch is speculated to come with a larger display in the same casing thanks to its narrow bezels.

In his latest report, Kuo also details about the new iPad Pro 2018. According to the analyst, the upcoming iPad Pro will ditch the Lightning Port in favour of the USB Type-C for the first time and will ship with the new 18W USB-C charger. Interestingly, the iPhones will retain the lightning ports and the same 5W charger. The new report also hints that the rumoured low-cost MacBook is likely to replace the 12-inch MacBook in the lineup and will feature a Touch ID instead of a Touch Bar. Kuo also mentions the new AirPods 2 and AirPower charging mat in his memo, suggesting that we might get an official launch date and pricing of the wireless charger which was announced last year.
Considering that the iPhone event is usually exclusive to iPhones and Apple Watch every year, it remains unclear if we will see other launches alongside as well. However, we don’t have to wait for long, so stay tuned.
