Apple iOS 12 begins rollout from September 17th
“Apple will start rolling out the iOS 12 in a phased manner starting from September 17th”
Apple held its much-anticipated ‘Gather Round’ event at Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino today. As expected, the brand has pulled curtains off the latest generation of iPhones and fourth-generation Apple Watch among other hardware. The company also announced the public rollout of the latest iteration of its operating system – iOS 12, which was announced at WWDC earlier this year. The newest software comes as a major upgrade and brings some interesting features.

The biggest and most awaited feature in the iOS 12 comes in the form of grouped notifications. Individual notifications from a single app will be clubbed together and can also be turned off for the apps that you do not wish to receive notifications from. Siri can also detect your interaction pattern with notifications and make intelligent suggestions about whether or not it should keep showing notifications from a particular app or stop them. Apple’s Animoji feature also gets four new characters – Koala, Tiger, T.rex and Ghost emoji as well as tongue detection.
There is also a new Memoji feature that lets users create a customisable avatar of themselves, which can be either be used as regular Animoji or in FaceTime as your substitute in real time.

Further, the iOS 12 brings support for ARKit 2.0, and Apple has announced a new AR format in collaboration with Pixar called USDZ. This new format will allow users to experience AR in Safari, iMessage, Mail and more. Next major update comes in the form of FaceTime, which now supports group video call and can connect up to 32 participants at the same time. The Photos app has also gotten smarter as it can now segregate images according to the time taken, event, faces and more. There is also an intelligent universal search in Photos which lets users search media files using keywords.
Other updates include improved Siri with Shortcuts feature, smart photo sharing, Screen Time, improved Do Not Disturb and interactive camera features.
