iPad Pro reference in iOS 12.1 suggests launch in October
“The Setup App has reference to an ‘iPad2018Fall’, hinting that the launch is around the corner”
There’s a lot of evidence floating around the Web regarding the upcoming iPad Pro’s design and features. It was rumoured to launch alongside the new iPhones, however, that did not come to pass. Now, a new piece of evidence lying deep inside iOS 12.1 software has been unearthed by 9to5Mac which confirms its launch next month unofficially. Apple has released iOS 12.1 and the source dug into the Setup App to find some juicy info regarding the next big Apple product. Take a look at the detailed evidence below.
As per the source, they used the Setup App (required for setting up new devices) and found an identifier in it for an “iPad2018Fall”. Now, this was something new as the previous version only contained identifiers for the new iPhones. It also means that Apple is working behind the scenes to educate potential users of the iPad Pro with the new gesture system.
As support for the above-mentioned evidence, the source also states their report of a new feature – landscape support for Face ID. Moreover, iOS 12.1 comes with a new feature called Memoji syncing which would make more sense with the upcoming iPads and their rumoured TrueDepth camera system. All this piling evidence along with the “2018 fall” iPad reference pretty much confirms the new iPad Pro.
We expect a launch of the new slates sometime in October if Apple continues its previous schedules. Prior to this, some new iPad Pro features such as the thin bezel design and the USB Type-C feature leaked online. The new design renders show very slim bezels overall, and Apple taking the iPad lineup in the direction of the iPhone in terms of design. This also means we will see Face ID debut as the primary mode of authentication on the new iPad Pro. Stay tuned as we will be bringing you the official launch dates as soon as Apple announces them.
