Samsung W2019 clamshell smartphone could come with Snapdragon 845 SoC

“The W2019 foldable smartphone is expected to be a flagship offering with two displays”

Earlier this year, a report had suggested that Samsung is working on the successor to last year’s W2018 clamshell smartphone, the W2019. The phone is rumoured to be in the pipeline under the codename “Lykan”, and is expected to come with a dual primary camera module at the rear. Now, a new report has revealed a few more details regarding the Samsung W2019 smartphone.

Samsung W2018

XDA Developers looked into the kernel source code of the Samsung Galaxy S9’s Snapdragon 845 SoC-powered variant. Inside the code, they found the references to the “Lykan” codename. There were two files referencing the same codename – sdm845-sec-lykanlte-chn-r00.dtb and sdm845-sec-lykanlte-chn-r01.dtb. These files suggest towards the Samsung W2019, which is headed for China. The files indicate that the handset could be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC.

Unfortunately, no other details regarding the Samsung W2019 foldable smartphone are available at the moment. If the reports are to be believed, the handset could be unveiled at some point in December this year with a premium price tag.
