Apple to launch new iPad mini, AirPower, second-gen AirPods in 2019: Ming-Chi Kuo

“The iPad mini line has not been updated since 2015, but it seems it does not lay forgotten in Apple’s secretive headquarters”

Apple recently sent out invites for its ‘Apple Special Event’, which is being hosted in Brooklyn, New York on October 30th. The event was expected to see the launch of next-generation iPad Pro models and new MacBook laptops. While the wait will be short for the top-end iPad model, it seems that Apple has not forgotten the entry-level iPad mini line either.

Fifth-generation iPad Mini launch in 2019

According to noted TF International analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple will introduce the fifth-generation iPad Mini with “an upgraded processor and a lower-cost panel”. However, he predicts that the smaller iPad will be missing from the upcoming event and most likely will be launched next year. Therefore, it is safe to assume that the upcoming slate might get unveiled at the 2019 Spring event of the brand. Notably, the brand has not updated the iPad Mini line-up since 2015, so an update has been a long time coming for the product line.

Kuo also mentions in his report that the Cupertino-based tech giant could launch the long coming AirPower wireless charging mat this year. Notably, the company showcased the wireless charger that can simultaneously charge up to three Apple devices, at its September 2017 keynote. However, the accessory is yet to witness a launch date or price. Kuo predicts that the wireless charger might get launched later this year or early 2019. The analyst also mentions that the update AirPods will also be launched alongside the AirPower mat.

Apart from the hardware that will be missing from the event, Kuo has also predicted the list of devices that Apple might announce. According to the report, the brand might launch two new iPad Pros with improved display and USB Type-C port. The new iPad Pros are rumoured to come with Face ID integration and reduced bezels. Apart from these, new MacBooks – including an affordable MacBook model – are expected. The analyst also goes on to predict that the company will launch an upgraded iMac, Mac Mini and a re-designed Apple Pencil at the event.

Ming-Chi Kuo – a former KGI analyst, now with TF International Securities – is known for its accurate predictions when it comes to Apple. It remains to be seen if his predictions come true this time as well.
