Google Home Hub with 7-inch display and full range speakers launched

The Mountain View giant Google has been bullish about its smart AI assistant since last year and it’s now an integral part of the whole Android and Google ecosystem. Over last couple of years, Google took the assistant a step further by inviting it into our homes with the launch of Google Home (first impressions), Home Mini and Home Max (in pictures). At this year’s hardware event, Google welcomed a new member into the Home family – Google Home Hub.

Basically, the Google Home Hub is the Home Max with a display; all of the smart goodies with a visual interface. The Google Home Hub has a 7-inch touchscreen display with ambient light and colour sensors on the top bezels. As for the audio, the Home Hub comes with a pair of full-range speakers for crystal clear sound and standard far-field microphones, to catch your voice from wherever you may be in the room. On the connectivity front, the smart speaker has been equipped with dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for streaming. The Hub is powered by 15W power adapter and weighs 480gms. The compact size allows users to fit the speaker in tighter spaces as well.

Speaking of the features, the Google Home Hub comes with a Voice Match functionality, which lets it identify users. Once identified, the speaker can display information like calendars, reminders, commute, and more, relevant to that particular user on the smart display. Google suite like Search, Maps, Photos, YouTube, Calendar, etc. will be available with a voice command – with a display to create an immersive experience. The device will come with 6-month free access to YouTube Premium service.

The display also lets users turn the Hub into an interactive digital photo frame using Google Photos app. Its Ambient EQ technology will change the display saturation to match the light in the surrounding areas, and turn off the screen automatically at night. Users can set a downtime for the Google Home Hub, during which the device will not interact with anyone in the home.

Additionally, the Hub can be paired with a Nest Cam, and other smart home appliances like lights and TVs, as well as 5,000 smart devices that are compatible with the Google Home. The new Hub will give users a dashboard – called Home View – that acts as the single point to check up on all the smart devices in your home. The Google Home app will now have the same Home View dashboard.

The Google Home Hub features the same fabric mesh and plastic construct as previous Home speakers and will be offered in Chalk and Charcoal colourways. The smart speaker is up for pre-orders now via the Google Store and will go up for sale starting October 22nd in the US, the UK, and Australia, and will set you back by $149 (~Rs 11,000).
