Google makes deleting your Search history simpler

“The new user controls on Google Search history are rolling out for desktop and mobile web now, and will come to Android and iOS apps in coming weeks”

Google has announced changes to the way users can access and delete their search history, making the process easier for everyone to access. Google saves users’ search history when they put in some queries in its search engine, right from the phrases they searched for to the links they opened in their quest to find the relevant information. Till now, this information buried deep in the Google Account settings but will be just a few clicks away from now.

In a blog post, Google’s Director of Product Management – Privacy and Data Protection Office, Eric Miraglia said it is tweaking its Search user interface to make user activity more easily accessible. This will allow users to review their searches and quickly delete the same for more privacy control. Apart from the key phrases and links, Google saves data such as location, device type, etc.

The internet giant is also providing users quick access information regarding the ads they see while searching under Ad Settings. In addition to this, users will be able to decide on what information the company gets to save to their account.

The UI changes are rolling out to desktop and mobile web today and will hit Android and iOS apps in the coming weeks. Similar control over other products such as Google Maps will come in 2019, the blog post said.

This move comes a few days after the company revealed that a Google+ bug could have compromised the personal information of as many as 500,000 users. Facebook has been embroiled in privacy scandals involving manipulation of millions of users’ data thanks to third-party company Cambridge Analytica.
