Misfit Vapor 2 Android Wear smartwatch with GPS, Snapdragon Wear 2100 launched

Qualcomm announced the much-needed Wear 3100 chipset a couple of months ago, with many in the industry speculating a revival of Android Wear smartwatches. However, it doesn’t look to be the saviour that the market wants as yet another smartwatch has given it a miss. Misfit has announced the Vapor 2, a new smartwatch that comes equipped with an ancient chipset. On the other hand, Misfit Vapor 2 buyers will get a couple of new features, including GPS and NFC that supports Google Pay.

To start off, the new Misfit Vapor 2 looks a lot like the original Vapor. The watch is available in two sizes – 41mm and 46mm – and its circular bezel comes encrusted with a 1.2-inch/ 1.4-inch OLED display. Misfit’s “swim-proof design” shields the watch from water immersions up to 30 metres. Other features include a heart-rate sensor and 4GB of internal storage and an ability to store apps and music. The watch is compatible with both Android and iOS devices and lets users listen to music without pairing it with a smartphone. Users can simply pair the watch with wireless earphones to listen to music on the go, bypassing the need of a smartphone.

Moving on, the biggest drawback on the Misfit Vapor 2 is the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100. It is surprising that Misfit decided to stick with an older processor when Mount Blanc has recently announced a Wear 3100 smartwatch. The company claims an all-day battery life, and charging is via a Magnetic Charger with pin. 

The Misfit Vapor 2 displays email, call, text, and app notifications. It can also show data on running, activity routes, distance travelled etc. As far as connectivity options and sensors are considered, the Vapor 2 features an accelerometer, altimeter, gyroscope, microphone, Bluetooth and WiFi. The Misfit Vapor 2 price is $249.99 (~Rs 18,000) and the listing says that it will be “available soon.” Misfit is offering the watch in eight finishes, namely Jet Black with black sport strap, Rose Tone with rose beige sport strap, Rose Tone with indigo silicone leather strap, Stainless Steel with stainless steel bracelet, Rose Tone with rose tone stainless steel bracelet, Stainless Steel with indigo silicone leather strap, Jet Black with walnut silicone leather strap, and Jet Black with jet stainless steel bracelet.
