nubia teases the launch of a new smartphone on October 31st, probably the nubia Z18s
“The nubia Z18S is expected to come with a front and rear display and a full-screen design”
After the launch of the flagship Nubia Z18, the brand is gearing up for a new smartphone launch on October 31st. The company’s CEO, Ni Fei took to Weibo teasing the launch of a mystery smartphone at the end of October, which will also mark the 6th anniversary of the brand. This means that the company would have something special in mind for the occasion. While there is little to go by from the teaser itself — except for the “X” design in the background — it’s being presumed that the new handset could be the Nubia Z18S, which has been renamed as the Nubia X.
While it remains to be seen what the device will be named, it’s evident that the handset will offer a full-screen fascia. We’ve seen some pretty novel ideas this year from brands like OPPO, Vivo who have tried to achieve a higher screen-to-body ratio with waterdrop notches. From what we’ve seen in leaks, nubia will get rid of the selfie camera entirely and letting the dual rear cameras do double duty with the help of a screen at the back.
Talking about the screens, a 6.26-inch full HD+ display sits at the front, while the rear has a smaller 5.1-inch OLED HD panel which not only doubles as a viewfinder but can be used for the same purpose as the primary panel. If you look closely at the teaser, you’ll see a speaker grill right at the edge of the top. The leaked pictures of the phone have also shown a similar design.
The nubia Z18S / X has previously received TENAA clearance in China as the nubia NX616J. The listing suggests the handset is a flagship offering with the Snapdragon 845 SoC, 6GB / 8GB of RAM, and a 3,800mAh battery. At the back, the handset has a pair of 24MP and 16MP shooters. If you’re wondering where the fingerprint reader is, one particular leak suggested it’ll be embedded inside the power button, just like the Galaxy A7 (2018) (first impressions).
