Ever since its commercial launch, the new-comer telecom operator Reliance Jio has been giving a fierce competition to other telcos — Airtel, Vodafone Idea Limited, and BSNL. The highly competitive data and voice combo plans from Jio forced the incumbent operators to drop their tariffs. Now, most of the telecom operators in the country offer almost similar benefits at all price points. One of these price segments is Rs 500, under which, all telcos are offering both voice and data benefits to their prepaid users for a month. Airtel’s Rs 499 Infinity postpaid plan

Airtel’s Rs 499 Infinity postpaid plan offers unlimited local and STD calls to all networks along with free incoming / outgoing calls while roaming nationally. The data benefits include 75GB of 3G / 4G data per month. Interestingly, the plan also lets you carry forward the remaining data over to the next month, which is capped at a max limit of 200GB. Other benefits include free access to Wynk Music and Airtel TV, Amazon Prime subscription for one year, three months of Netflix subscription, free access to ZEE5 shows and movies, and free handset damage protection.

BSNL’s competing postpaid plan

Unlike Airtel, Vodafone, Idea, and Jio, BSNL is currently not offering any postpaid tariff with similar voice and data benefits. However, the state-run telecom operator introduces limited period promotional offers. Idea’s Rs 499 Nirvana postpaid plan

Just like Airtel, Idea also has a monthly postpaid tariff plan that costs Rs 499. The brand’s Nirvana plan offers unlimited local and STD calls to all networks even on roaming, and 100 SMSes per month. The benefits of the pack include 75GB data, and it also offers data carry forward facility with a limit of up to 200GB. The content benefits include free premium access to Idea Music, Idea Movies & TV, and games for 12 months. You can also avail a free subscription of up to five premium magazines.

Vodafone’s Red Entertainment+ Rs 499 postpaid plan

Coming to Vodafone, the telco offers an affordable Red Entertainment+ Rs 499 plan to its postpaid users. Apart from unlimited local and STD calls with free national roaming, the pack provides 100 free SMSes per day. The plan offers 75GB of cellular data for a month with a carry forward facility of up to 200GB. You get a free premium subscription to Vodafone Play app, which lets you watch movies and TV shows for a year. Furthermore, the pack offers 12 months of free subscription to Amazon Prime, Rs 500 worth subscription of Netflix, five free magazines every month, and also comes with free handset damage protection worth Rs 3,000.

Reliance Jio’s Rs 199 postpaid plan

Earlier, Reliance Jio used to offer 60GB of 4G data per month with a FUP of 2GB per day and unlimited calls to all networks with free roaming, apart from access to Jio’s premium app suite with its Rs 509 tariff. However, this plan is currently missing from its postpaid recharge options at the moment. There’s only a single Rs 199 postpaid tariff that offers 25GB of data, unlimited calling, access to Jio app suite, and 100 SMSes per day. 

Which postpaid plan should you go for?

As you can see from the comparison above, Airtel, Idea, and Vodafone offer the same voice and data benefits with their Rs 499 postpaid pack. This tariff from the aforementioned telecom operators cost around Rs 18 per day for a month (28 days). Airtel and Vodafone both provide free access to popular media streaming apps including Prime Video and Netflix, but Idea’s Rs 499 tariff doesn’t offer this. Notably, Airtel is also providing additional access to ZEE5 shows and movies with its similar plan. So, Airtel’s Rs 499 has an edge above the same packs from other operators in terms of providing additional content. 

One interesting thing to note is that Reliance Jio’s Rs 199 plan, is offering unlimited calls and 100 SMSes per day, 25GB of 4G data, and a complimentary subscription to Jio’s premium app suite at just Rs 7 per day. With this tariff, the voice calling and SMS services from Jio are cheaper than the other telecom operators, but the brand isn’t offering free access to content providers like Prime Video, Netflix, and ZEE5.
