Cortana’s redesign 3.0 update with cleaner and more organised design launched for iOS

“The latest update makes the app much more organised and cleaner to look at”

Cortana 3.0 is officially out for iOS, after being in testing for a month. And apart from a redesigned interface, Microsoft Cortana’s app allows you have “conversational experiences” with the voice assistant, listen to music and podcasts, and set up Cortana devices. Additionally, the update also allows for better integration with the rest of Microsoft’s ecosystem of services. It can be used to join Skype or Teams meetings and also for accessing the calendar, meetings, emails, reminders, and to-dos. Its interface is also quite different from the beta version, as in instead of three tabs on the previous one the final version gets a single tab called “Upcoming,” which shows you an outline of your day.

Other features such as reminders or lists are there to be accessed from a slide-in menu on the right side. Overall, it’s much cleaner and organised to look at compared to last year’s version, which was unnecessarily cluttered. And although Cortana is not quite on par with some of the other voice-assistants in the market, it’s good to see Microsoft not giving up on it. Instead it is integrating Cortana more and more with its ecosystem of devices, which will expand even further with Microsoft’s upcoming Surface Headphones.

Earlier this year, Microsoft had even acquired a conversational AI startup called Semantic Machines to make Cortana’s responses sound more human. Semantic Machines was founded in 2014 by UC Berkeley professor Dan Klein and former Apple chief speech scientist Larry Gillick with an aim to make bots respond in a more natural way to queries.
