Google promises fix for Pixel 3 XL speaker issue

“Google has promised a software fix in the coming weeks”

Issues with Google Pixel 3 don’t seem to catch a break. Recently several reports had surfaced on social media about faulty speakers on the smartphone, an issue which was referred to by some as ‘buzzgate’. But Google has now acknowledged the problem and has promised a fix soon. Users had taken to Twitter and Reddit to detail how their Pixel 3XL devices were making a static, buzzing, or distorted sound, even at low volumes. Considering the reports the problem was only with the larger model, as no issue with the regular Pixel 3 model was reported. “My speaker sounds like shit at low volume, almost like a buzzing at the bottom one and the sound is different depending on how I touch the back glass,” a user had said on Twitter.

More people on social media also corroborated with the story, while a few of them worked hard on dissecting the problem. One Redditor had suggested that low-to-mid-range frequencies were the ones that were causing most of the problems (between 20-500Hz), while others deemed it a hardware failure. One user had even reported that the issue went away by itself. However, still a majority of the affected owners had RMA’d their devices. But now with Google promising to roll out a software fix for the speaker buzzing problem in the coming weeks, conforms that the issue didn’t have anything to do with faulty hardware. Although no official statement was made by the company, a user named Thomas Demeter, recently tweeted about an exchange he had with Google help desk.

So there you have it, there’s no problem with your Pixel 3 XL’s hardware. And in case you’re one of the aggrieved users, sit back and relax as the problem should get sorted in coming week or two. Even last years’ Pixel 2 XL had suffered from a similar problem, but that time Google had replaced the faulty devices, as that time the problem was found in the phone’s hardware.
