Nokia has announced a closed Android 9 Pie beta program for its latest mid-range smartphone –  the X7 (Nokia 8.1). The handset currently boots Android 8.1 Oreo, but it’s all set to get the latest ninth iteration of Android version shortly. HMD Global, the brand that holds the license to make and sell Nokia phones, is carrying out a recruitment program on Weibo to test the Android Pie before rolling out to every Nokia X7 users.

To be a tester of Nokia X7 Android Pie beta program, make sure your device is running the official launch software and have never unlocked or rooted the model. Since this is an early build, the users are advised to back up their data to prevent any loss. Once you are selected, your device will get Android Pie via over the air (OTA) update.

For those unaware, the Nokia X7 was launched in China last month, and it’s yet to debut globally. It’s being said that the handset could be launched outside China under Nokia 8.1 moniker rather than the Nokia 7.1 Plus. Moreover, as reported by 91mobiles exclusively, the Nokia 8.1 (Nokia X7) could be priced in India at Rs 23,999. In China, the handset retails for a starting price of RMB 1,699 (~ Rs 18,999).

Coming to the specifications, the Nokia X7 sports a6.18-inch full-HD+ display with a notch up top and an aspect ratio of 19:9. The phone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC paired with up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB expandable storage. For photography, the handset flaunts a dual 13MP + 12MP sensors on the rear with LED flash and 2-megapixel shooter on the front for selfies. Other features include a 3,500mAh battery with 18W fast charging and connectivity options like 4G VoLTE, dual-SIM slots, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS with GLONASS, USB Type-C, 3.5mm earphone jack.
