OnePlus to take 100 participants to test OnePlus 6T closed beta program
“This group of users will be in constant communication with OnePlus’ engineers via Slack, to give feedback on new features, and find bugs and flaws in the overall build.”
OnePlus is now accepting participants for the OnePlus 6T closed beta program. The beta was announced on OnePlus’ official forum by Manu J., global product operations manager at OnePlus. As part of this program, a chosen set of 100 users will gain access to features and builds well in advance of everyone else, and will thereby work as the first testing point for OnePlus with its end-users.
In its official post, OnePlus has stated, “The Closed Beta Group is the closest group to OnePlus staff. This group is made up of an elite crew of OnePlus community members. This group needs absolute secrecy, as testers will often get builds and features weeks or even months before they are released to the public. Given the secrecy aspect, you are required to sign an NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement) with OnePlus to be part of this program.”

The company has further specified that those enrolled in the closed beta program will be needed to flash the builds on their respective OnePlus 6T (review) units constantly, and often, even a clean flash may be required, which in turn would lead to data loss. This group of users will also be in constant communication with OnePlus’ engineers via Slack, to give them feedback pertaining to newly introduced features, as well as find bugs and flaws in the overall build.
The closed beta program was also run with the OnePlus 6, and gives a chance for users to report on what they would want to see in their device, along with a glimpse at future builds of OnePlus’ smartphones. The closed beta will be carried out on OxygenOS, which is OnePlus’ ROM in global markets. The company runs its Chinese devices on HydrogenOS, which includes the essential features of OxygenOS minus Google services.
The OnePlus 6T has been launched recently, and while it has continued the trend of presenting a thorough, flagship-grade package in terms of specifications and features, it did meet criticism owing to software bugs, the in-display fingerprint scanner and other such elements. While it has already rolled out initial updates to quash certain issues, the closed beta program may help the company’s user base get better usage experience in the long run.
