Vivo Z1 Youth Edition goes for pre-order; Snapdragon 626 and dual cameras in tow

The Vivo Z1 Youth Edition can now be pre-booked from Vivo’s official website in China. The handset comes as a younger sibling to the previously launched Z1 smartphone. As an entry-level offering, the Z1 Youth Edition comes with a premium notched display design, dual rear cameras, and a fingerprint sensor, as well as face unlock feature.

The Vivo Z1 Youth comes with a slightly more affordable price tag – RMB 1098 (~Rs 11,600) to be exact, compared to the Vivo Z1 that costs RMB 1,798 (~Rs 19,000). However, the latter comes with better SoC and double the storage than the Youth Edition. The Youth Edition smartphone is available in three shades: Black, Blue, and Purple, and as stated above, it can be pre-booked from Vivo’s website.

The Vivo Z1 Youth Edition flaunts a 6.26-inch display with full-HD+ resolution and an aspect ratio of 19:9. The screen is said to have a screen-to-body ratio of 90 percent. At the core,the handset is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 626 SoC, coupled with 4GB of RAM and 32GB expandable storage. Its sibling, the Vivo Z1, on the other hand, rocks Snapdragon 660 chipset, accompanied by 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage.

In optics, the Z1 Youth Edition employs dual 16MP + 2MP sensors on the rear with LED flash. On papers, the handset’s camera seems better than the Vivo Z1 which features 13MP + 2MP camera setup. Up front, for selfies and video calling, the Youth Edition gets the same 16MP shooter.

The phone boots Android 8.1 Oreo-based Funtouch OS 4.0 custom UI out of the box. In terms of connectivity, you get Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0 Low Energy, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, and 4G VoLTE. A 3,260mAh battery rounds up the specifications sheet. There’s no information if and when the Vivo is planning to bring its latest Z-series, including the Z1 and Z1 Youth Edition, to India as of now.
