Xiaomi Mi 8 SE with Android Q spotted on Geekbench site

Google’s next iteration of Android platform has started hitting the headline. We’re just four months into the Android 9 Pie release but talks about its successor – the Android Q – have started to pour in. After Pixel 3 XL was spotted running Android Q, the Xiaomi Mi 8 SE (in-pictures) smartphone has popped up with the OS on a benchmarking site Geekbench. The handset was unveiled earlier this year as an entry-level offering of Xiaomi’s flagship Mi 8 lineup, and it comes running Android 8 Oreo-based MIUI 9.5 out of the box.

Xiaomi has recently started testing Android 9 Pie beta on the Mi 8 SE, and it seems like that won’t be the only major OS update for the phone. It is likely to get Android Q update next year if the Geekbench listing is anything to go by. The handset has been spotted on the benchmarking site with the same Snapdragon 710 SoC and 6GB of RAM as was announced at the time of launch. As for the scores, the Android Q didn’t make much difference in the Mi 8 SE performance. The handset got the somewhat similar points – 1,830 points to be exact – in the single-core test and 5,819 in the multi-core test. 

The features about the Android Q is scarce at the moment, but what we do know is that it’s likely to launch next year at Google’s I/O conference 2019. Rumours are that the upcoming OS will bring improved split-screen multitasking feature to the foray. It’s said to keep the split-screen apps active simultaneously, instead of one being inactive. We expect to know more features about the Android Q in the coming days, so keep watching the space.
