Apple iPhone XS Max allegedly catches fire and explodes in user’s pocket: report
“Josh Hillard from Ohio, United States claims that the smartphone emitted smoke, heated up and caught fire, all while in his pocket“
The iPhone XS Max (review) is the most premium smartphone from Apple for the year 2018 and surprisingly, was the brand’s least sold smartphone along with iPhone XS (review). To add to the woes of the Cupertino-based tech giant, Josh Hillard, a man from Ohio in the US claims that his iPhone XS Max caught fire, emitted smoke and exploded in his pant pocket, causing skin injury.

According to the report, Hillard claims that he noticed a cloud of thick smoke emanating from his iPhone XS Max and felt a burning sensation on his skin due to the large amount of heat generated. He then rushed out and took off his pants to put out flames using a fire extinguisher. Hillard then proceeded to take the burnt remains of the smartphone to the Apple store and spent 20 minutes answering questions by an Apple store employee, and then waited another 40 minutes after the phone was returned. The user claims that he was informed by the Apple Store manager that the phone had to be sent to the engineering team for analysis in order to provide him with a replacement unit.

After the ordeal with the Apple Store employees, Hillard returned home and contacted the Apple Care Line, and was asked to send the pictures of concerned phone and damages caused by the same. This was when he was promised a replacement unit and also received the same. However, Hillard claims that the new replacement unit is not compensation enough for what he went through. According to iDrop News, Hillard is now planning to sue the company for compensation for his damaged clothes, shoes and wireless service which he was unable to use during his time negotiating with Apple.
As of now, the cause of explosion has not been revealed by the company or user. Apple is yet to respond to the whole fiasco, and we will update with more details as and when it does.
