Google Maps’ personalised ‘For You’ tab coming to iOS, coming to more countries on Android
“Google Maps’ For You tab recommends places based on the likes of the users from their past visits on iOS and Android”
Google has introduced a new ‘For You’ section in the Google Maps app for iOS, which will provide a personalised recommendation in real-time. Additionally, the feature is being further expanded on Android for more countries. The new addition on the Google Map was first revealed at the Google I/O earlier this year that included augmented reality Street view mode, which will help follow directions in real time.
The For You section is finally landing on iOS in more than 40 countries, while it was introduced for Android back in June and will now expand to 130 more countries. It provides personalised recommendations that can help users discover new places like restaurants, stores etc in their vicinity. Additionally, it would provide users a feed of updates about the places they have been to or liked. With the help of this, users can also follow specific stores or restaurants and it works just like a Maps-specific social network for them.

Once users update the app, they would find a number of suggestions that will include the newly inaugurated places to visit or restaurants where new menu have been listed. It would be based on users’ personal tastes or preference, which Google draws from the ‘match number’ system that will generate a score of the likeness of the users from their past visits.
