Netflix will no longer allow iOS users to subscribe via iTunes billing on its app
Netflix has confirmed that it will no longer allow new users to subscribe via the iTunes billing option on the iOS app. New subscribers will have to open the Netflix website on the browser to pay using other methods and to subscribe. Those who are already subscribed and are using iTunes billing, will not have to go through this new ordeal. On Android, Netflix had stopped accepting payments via Google Play Store in May.
This change is now in effect globally, confirmed a Netflix representative to Venture Beat. The company started rolling out the new changes last month to users all over the world. The representative also mentioned that those who have cancelled their subscription, but are already members, will not be able to use iTunes as a payment option.

Netflix is doing this because it had to pay a fee to Apple when customers used the iTunes option to pay for the subscription. The company had to pay a 15 percent cut to Apple for every transaction. This charge was added to the customers bill, which was more than the normal subscription charges. Hence, the new change will allow users to subscribe to Netflix without paying anything extra. This does mean that customers will now have to sign up and subscribe using the website, but it is a good move by the streaming site.
Apple and Google charge App developers to sell apps on their respective platforms. Both charge a 15 percent fee, which is a lot. Netflix isn’t the only company who has decided to step away from paying such high fees. Other developers such as Epic Games, Financial Times, Spotify, have also started to release their products via other channels as well. For example, Fortnite for Android is available for download via the company website only.
