Samsung ‘Artistic Live Focus’ trademarked, might debut with Galaxy S10 series
“Samsung’s Artistic Live Focus is likely to be a more refined of the existing Live Focus portrait mode”
Samsung has filed a trademark for ‘Artistic Live Focus’ with the European patent office. This trademark suggests the feature could come to the upcoming Samsung devices, including the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ smartphones. The company’s smartphones already have the Live focus feature that creates a bokeh blur in the background keeping a sharp foreground object, so the new Artistic Live Focus mode could be a refined version of the same.
The Artistic Live Focus name has been trademarked by Samsung in the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), first spotted by GalaxyClub.nl. The trademark application calls it a “computer software for creating digital animation and special effects of images.” This clearly suggests a new, more advanced portrait mode is on the way and the Galaxy S10 series is the likeliest contender for its debut considering how central cameras are to the flagship Samsung experience.
Samsung Galaxy S10 series smartphones are said to feature computational photography thanks to a dedicated AI co-processor that is in the rumour mill. This feature will reportedly bring the Galaxy S10 camera experience at par with that of the Google Pixel 3 series models. Computational photography is mostly found in digital cameras and uses an image processing algorithm to improve images by minimising motion blur. It also adds depth, optimises colour reproduction, and light range.
Based on the Samsung’s flagship lineup, Galaxy S10 will have triple cameras on the back and two in the front. Galaxy S10+ is said to come with four rear cameras and two selfie sensors. The Galaxy S10 Lite, on the other hand, will reportedly have just two rear camera sensors and a single selfie camera. The Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S10 series will reportedly launch on February 20th, a week ahead of Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
