Top 5 features of the Lenovo Z5s

“The Lenovo Z5s comes across as a solid smartphone in the Rs 15k segment”

Lenovo has made two big announcements yesterday, and while the Snapdragon 855-equipped Z5 Pro is definitely the one that’s grabbing most eyeballs, the new Z5s smartphone is also something that’s worthy of your attention. Contrary to what the leaks had suggested, this device hasn’t come with a punch-hole display, but it does bear a pretty alluring design nonetheless. That said, its other specifications are also impressive, and so is its affordable price tag. Without further ado, let’s take a look at the top 5 features of this new Lenovo handset.

Waterdrop notch on the screen

It does not interfere with the display much, and allows the screen to dominate the front surface. This also does wonders for the immersive nature of the display. The Lenovo Z5s has a large 6.39-inch panel which bears a resolution of 1,080 x 2,340 pixels. Its minimal bezels allow the phone to boast a screen-to-body ratio of 92.6 percent.

A trio of rear cameras

Another trend that this Lenovo handset has latched onto is that of having triple cameras sitting on the rear surface. The vertically-aligned array of shooters on the back of the Z5s is highlighted by a 16MP main sensor that’s paired with an f/1.8 aperture lens for great low-light shots. A second 8MP f/2.4 snapper sits below it for delivering 2x optical zoom. As for the third camera, it houses a 5MP f/2.4 depth sensor for helping provide portrait effects. A dual-colour LED flash accompanies this setup to aid low-light photography. As for the software, Lenovo has added tons of AI-based knick-knacks to this phone as well.

Powerful internals

The phone ships with the Snapdragon 710 SoC, which features a 2.2GHz octa-core processor and an Adreno 616 GPU. Gamers will be pleased to know that there’s a Game Turbo feature that’s meant to augment the performance of the phone. This device will be sold in three variants. While two among them (64GB and 128GB storage models) offer 6GB of RAM, the 64GB storage variant offers 4GB RAM. A 3,300mAh battery goes inside the handset, along with support for 18W fast charging, which works via its USB Type-C port.

Impressive selfies with a 16MP front camera

Sitting inside the tiny waterdrop notch of the Z5s is a 16MP camera. This snapper will enable high-resolution selfies. Just like the rear camera, this one too is supported by AI enhancements. These include stuff like a beauty mode and a pixel binding technology for sharper photos. This camera is also used by the phone to enable its face unlock technology.

Attractive pricing

The Lenovo Z5s hasn’t been announced for sale in India yet, but if its Chinese pricing is to be looked at and converted, it’s quite mouth-watering. Its base model, with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage costs RMB 1,398 (~ Rs 15,000). That’s quite an attractive price for phone offering three rear cameras and the Snapdragon 710 chipset. Its 6GB + 64GB option carries a price tag of RMB 1,598 (~ Rs 17,000), whereas the top-end 8GB + 128GB variant sells at RMB 1,898 (~ Rs 20,000). The Z5s will go on sale in Lenovo’s home country on December 24th.

If and when the new Lenovo Z5s arrives in the country, it will definitely prove to be a big challenger to the likes of the Redmi Note 6 Pro (review), Realme 2 Pro (review) and ASUS ZenFone Max Pro M2 (review), among other phones.
