Xiaomi Mi Play teasers reveal waterdrop notch and dual rear cameras ahead of December 24th launch

Yesterday, Xiaomi rolled out press invites for the launch of Mi Play smartphone on December 24th. Now, the company has shared a teaser that gives us a first look of the device. It will come with a waterdrop notch atop the display, gradient finish, and a dual camera setup along with a fingerprint sensor at the back panel. Notably, this seems to be the same smartphone that was certified by TENAA a few days back but was mistaken for Redmi 7 Pro.
Now that the phone that got certification from the Chinese authority will likely be Mi Play, it’ll come with a 5.84-inch display with Full HD+ (1,080 x 2,280p) resolution. The screen is expected to be covered with 2.5D curved glass. The handset is likely to be driven by a 2.3GHz Snapdragon (chipset not known) octa-core processor, accompanied by 3GB/ 4GB/ 6GB LPDDR4X RAM and 32GB/ 64GB/ 128GB internal storage that is expandable up to 256GB with microSD.
In the camera department, the Mi Play could sport an 8-megapixel shooter front-facing camera. The dual camera setup on the rear is expected to sport a 12-megapixel primary sensor paired with an ‘unknown’ secondary depth-sensing snapper. The cameras are tipped to be aided by Artificial Intelligence to further enhance the results. Xiaomi’s upcoming offering is listed with Android 8.1 Oreo, not the latest Android Pie software. Connectivity options include dual 4G LTE support, WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS+GLONASS. Lastly, a 2,900mAh battery is expected to round off the specs sheet of Mi Play.
The price of the Mi Play remains the only missing piece from the puzzle right now. Meanwhile, the handset is expected to come in Blue, Red, Black, White, and Rose Gold colour options. It should be noted that gaming smartphones with as little as 3GB of RAM are not common.
