Xiaomi Redmi Go gets certified in Singapore, could be an Android Go smartphone

“Xiaomi Redmi Go will be the marketing name of the M1903C3GG model, the Singapore IMDA certification reveals”

The upcoming Xiaomi M1903C3GG smartphone has previously been certified by the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) over the past month. Now, the smartphone has been certified in Singapore and the listing reveals it will be sold under the name Redmi Go. This moniker suggests that Xiaomi is working on its first Android Go smartphone and the launch could be in the next few months.

Xiaomi Redmi Go IMDA certification

According to the listing by Singapore’s certification agency IMDA, first spotted by Nashville Chatterclass, the Xiaomi M1903C3GG would be marketed under the name Redmi Go. The listing in Singapore does not reveal anything beyond the name of the handset. However, the FCC listing mentions it will have 2.4GHz Wi-Fi compatibility and Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity, features usually seen in low-end phones. Even affordable smartphones these days support dual-band (2.4GHz and 5GHz) Wi-Fi as well as Bluetooth 5.0.

The Nashville Chatterclass report says that the dual-SIM Redmi Go handset was listed on FCC with 141mm height, 71mm width, and diagonal measurement of 159mm. The blog suggests these dimensions point to a 5.9-inch display with 18:9 aspect ratio.

Since it will be an Android Go phone, we can expect it to come with modest specifications, such as 1GB of RAM, 8GB and 16GB internal storage, and single cameras on the back and front. It remains to be seen whether Xiaomi will use the stock Android Go software or create a MIUI Go version to go with the low-end phone. It will, of course, be compatible with Google’s Go series apps such as Maps Go, Search Go, etc. As for pricing, we can expect the Redmi Go price to be less than Rs 5000 if it launches in India as it will be positioned below the Redmi 6A/ Redmi 7A smartphones.
