ASUS ZenFone 5 Android 9 Pie update rollout begins

Taiwanese smartphone maker ASUS has started rolling out Android 9 Pie update to its ZenFone 5 smartphone. This is the first major software update the handset is getting after it was launched last year with Android 8 Oreo running out of the box. To recall, it’s the regular ZenFone 5 variant (model number ZE620KL) which shares its form factor, notch, and display with the ASUS’s flagship offering ZenFone 5Z (review). The latter employs Snapdragon 845 SoC instead of SD 636 and is yet to receive the Android update.

While the company has just started OTA Android Pie update on the ZenFone 5, it was for a manual download prior to it. The update will receive to end users in batches, therefore, it may take “some days for you to receive the FOTA notice.”

For those unaware, the ZenFone 5 was announced in February 2018 but never made to Indian shores. The phone features a 6.2-inch display with Full HD+ resolution and an aspect ratio of 18.7:9. At its heart lies a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chipset, accompanied by 4GB/ 6GB of RAM and 64GB internal storage that can be further boosted up to 512GB by adding a microSD card.
In optics, the phone employs a 12-megapixel primary sensor and an 8-megapixel secondary shooter paired with LED flash on the rear. While on the front, it gets an 8-megapixel snapper with a f/2.0 aperture lens. A 3,300mAh battery fuels the device, and for security, it flaunts a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. Connectivity options include WiFi, 4G LTE, Bluetooth, NFC, GPS/ GLONASS, and 3.5mm headphone jack.
