Announced at CES 2019 Sony’s WH-1000XM3 noise-canceling wireless headphones will soon receive Amazon Alexa support, offering users with hands-free and voice-control functionalities. Playing music, changing tracks, controlling smart home devices and many other things will be possible using Alexa and apart from the newly launched ones, the previous models namely — WH-1000XM2 and WI-1000X wireless headphones will also receive Alexa support via firmware update version 4.1 of Sony’s Headphones Connect app. Sony announced that the update will roll out during the first quarter this year.

All these models already support Google Assistant but with the inclusion of Alexa, users will have the option to choose between Google’s and Amazon’s offerings. But you’ll be able to activate only one assistant at a time and you’ll have to press a button to activate the same. “Sony is always seeking to provide new listening experiences and to enhance the usability and integration of our products into users’ daily lives. Adding Alexa support to our noise-canceling wireless headphones makes it easy to find audio content so users spend less time searching for their music and more time enjoying it,” said Mike Fasulo, President and COO of Sony, North America during the announcement.

Another interesting incident involving Alexa happened yesterday during a Qualcomm demo which involved Amazon’s voice assistant. While Qualcomm was showcasing how highly intuitive voice-based experiences can lead to more natural interactions between vehicle and the driver in future cars, Alexa suddenly said, “No, that’s not true.”
