[CES 2019]: Withings Move ECG smartwatch announced with EKG sensor onboard

“Withings has unveiled a new smartwatch at CES 2019 that features an in-built ECG sensor to record electrocardiograms”

Plenty of new products are being unveiled at CES 2019 in Las Vegas and Withings just announced some new smartwatches. Withings, the French manufacturer, has unveiled the new Move ECG smartwatch that features an onboard EKG sensor. The watch is part of the new Move series from the company. This is the second smartwatch, after Apple’s latest Watch Series 4, to include an in-built sensor to record electrocardiograms.

The Withings Move ECG is an analog watch that includes several smartwatch features. It has a circular body like a traditional watch, but can track activities at the same time. There is no display on the watch, which means that you will not see any notifications on the device itself. It can, however, track various user activities using the GPS on the connected phone. Withings says that the watch can also be used to monitor sleep. All of the data is available via the Health Mate app and that’s the only way to check things. The watch has a price tag of $129.95 and will go on sale in Q2 2019.

The EKG sensor on the watch comprises of three electrodes. Two of these electrodes are placed underneath the watch, while a third one is present on the bezel. The user will need to touch the bezel on both sides, while wearing the watch, to get a reading. It will take 20 seconds for the watch to provide an ECG reading on the companion app.

Withings is currently awaiting on an FDA clearance for the EKG feature on the Move ECG watch. Users can still use the watch to track other data, but they will not be able to use the EKG function. This is why the company is waiting for the approval from the FDA to sell the watch.

Apart from the Move ECG, Withings also announced a standard Move watch. This variant doesn’t feature the EKG sensor and that’s the only difference between the two. You can pre-order the Move watch for $69.95 via the company’s official website. The watch is available in five different colours and will start shipping on February 5.
