MediaTek’s upcoming MT6635 SoC with Bluetooth 5.0 appears on Bluetooth SIG’s website

“MediaTek can be expected to bring support for Bluetooth 5.0 to budget devices with its upcoming SoC”

MediaTek offers a number of processors for budget and mid-range smartphones under its Helio and MT6xxx series. Last year, the company introduced quite a few new processors in the Helio A and P series. Now, it appears that the chipset maker is all set to unveil yet another SoC for affordable smartphones soon. Ahead of an official announcement, the upcoming MediaTek MT6635 processor has been certified by Bluetooth SIG.

MediaTek MT6635 Bluetooth SIG

The Bluetooth certification hasn’t revealed many details about the MediaTek MT6635 SoC at the moment. However, the listing does suggest that this chip will offer Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity support. Notably, not many mid-tier processors offer this support at the moment. So it looks like MediaTek is planning to bring the support for the latest Bluetooth standard with its upcoming MT6635 processor. For those unaware, Bluetooth 5.0 offers faster speed (of up to 2Mbps) and greater range (a distance of up to 800 feet), along with offering the ability to tether to compatible devices simultaneously. Notably, most of MediaTek’s mid-range SoCs offer quad-core or octa-core processors and PowerVR GPUs, so we can expect the MT6635 to also offer similar features.

MediaTek Helio P90 - featured

Most recently, MediaTek launched the Helio P90 and Helio P35 processors. The Helio P90 is the brand’s flagship offering, which is claimed to deliver 14 percent better performance than the Helio P60. Based on TSMC’s 12nm fabrication process, the chipset brings the Fusion AI architecture, support for 21:9 displays, advanced AI capabilities, and more. As for the Helio P35, the silicon caters to affordable and mid-range smartphones. The processor is touted to offer advanced dual-camera smartphones with AI enhancements and rich connectivity.

As of now, it’s not clear if and when MediaTek is planning to introduce the MT6635 processor. However, we will keep an eye for more details about this upcoming SoC, so stay tuned for regular updates.
