OnePlus 8 Pro display issues are software-related, company will fix them with OTA updates

OnePlus has acknowledged the display issues on the OnePlus 8 Pro, and they are seemingly software-related only. A couple of weeks ago, some OnePlus 8 Pro users reported seeing green tint and black crush issues on the display of their units. The former is apparent at 120Hz refresh rate and low brightness setting. Following the reports, OnePlus released a software update to fix the display issues, but most users are still not convinced they see a difference.
A Reddit user ‘OcuQuest1409’ posted a screenshot of their interaction with a OnePlus support staff who mentioned that the OnePlus 8 Pro display issues are hardware related. The staff then suggested three solutions to get the device fixed – affected users can send their OnePlus 8 Pro unit to a service centre for repair, or return the device and claim a refund, or submit a replacement request on the website and get a new device.
However, OnePlus later apologised to the Reddit user for the confusion and clarified that the display issues are not hardware related, but that they are related to “black bar”. The company added that “an extremely slight brightness difference” may be found under low brightness settings, but assured that this will not affect the device’s performance. OnePlus also said that if customers are not happy, they can opt for a refund. As for the black crush issue, the company intends to fix it via a future OTA update.
To recall, the OnePlus 8 Pro features a 6.78-inch Fluid AMOLED QHD+ display with 120Hz refresh rate, MEMC technology, 19.8:9 aspect ratio, HDR Boost. OnePlus is proud of the display on the OnePlus 8 series and DisplayMate has given an A+ rating to the smartphones as well. The smartphone is set to go on sale in India this month, and we expect OnePlus to fix some of the display issues, if not all, before the device reaches more people.
