Quality gaming on affordable smartphones made possible with MediaTek Helio G25 and G35 chipsets

There is no denying that the modern smartphone has come a long way from its initial days. In fact, not too long ago, it was common to observe a significant gap between higher-priced, top-end smartphones, and affordable handsets when it came to performance. This gap became glaringly obvious while gaming. Unsurprisingly, it didn’t take too long for a consensus to emerge from this situation: smooth gaming on budget smartphones is a myth. Fast forward to 2019, and MediaTek, one of the world’s leading semiconductor companies, introduced its new lineup of G Series chipsets with a focus primarily on gaming. With the new G Series, MediaTek aimed to blur the performance gap between high-end, performance-oriented chipsets, and affordable SoCs and bring a no-compromise gaming experience to affordable handsets. And it does seem like the company has managed to deliver on this promise.
Take the case of the latest G series chipsets from the company — the recently-introduced MediaTek Helio G35 and G25. The MediaTek Helio G35 is quite a power-packed SoC for affordable smartphones. Even though these are the most affordable G Series chipsets, they pack in a host of features that let users of affordable smartphones experience gaming like never before. In this article, we take a closer look at some of these features.
But first, let us take a quick look at the specs of the MediaTek Helio G25 and G35.
MediaTek Helio G25, G35 specifications

The MediaTek Helio G25 and G35 chipsets both feature octa-core CPUs. While the G25 gets an 8x ARM Cortex A-53 processor clocked at up to 2GHz, the G35 gets the same specs — but with a higher clocked CPU 2.3 GHz. The graphics on the MediaTek Helio G25 is handled by the IMG PowerVR GE8320 GPU with a maximum clock speed of up to 650MHz. On the MediaTek Helio G35, the IMG PowerVR GE8320 is used again — but with an increased clock speed of up to 680MHz. Both the chips support high camera resolution and FHD video encoding and decoding. While the G25 supports 20:9 displays of up to HD+ resolution (1,600 x 720 pixels), the G35 supports 20:9 FHD+ (2,400 x 1,080 pixels) displays. Both the chips feature comprehensive connectivity options including Wi-Fi 5 (802.11 a/b/g/n/ac), Bluetooth 5.0, and FM Radio.
Let’s now get back to the features that make the new MediaTek Helio G25 and G35 stand out from other competing chips in its category.
Support for HyperEngine technology
The MediaTek Helio G25 and G35 chips feature support for the MediaTek HyperEngine Gaming Technology. A bouquet term for performance optimisation and connectivity enhancement features, the primary aim of HyperEngine technology is to enhance the mobile gaming experience on smartphones. It manages to do this with the help of four dedicated engines
- Networking Engine
- Rapid Response Engine
- Resource Management Engine
- Picture Quality Engine
Let’s take a closer look at each of these.

MediaTek Helio G25, G35 chips: Why upgrade?
While the MediaTek Helio G25 and Helio G35 chips are intended to be used on affordable handsets, there is no denying that both these chips are more powerful than their P series counterparts — the MediaTek Helio P22 and the P35 chipsets. With extra features like HyperEngine technology and advanced multi-camera framework, the MediaTek Helio G25 and G35 guarantee much better, improved gaming experience when compared to their predecessors and the competition in general. Simply put — if you are on the lookout for a new, budget smartphone that promises excellent gaming performance, and a power-efficient CPU, you cannot go wrong buying a device that features either of these chips.
