Realme X series will be replaced by the Realme GT series: Madhav Sheth

Highlights
  • Realme GT series will be launched globally on August 18th
  • Realme X primarily offered handsets in upper mid-range
  • Realme X series has been a popular choice among users under the Rs 30,000 price category

Realme GT 5G, GT Master Edition, and Master Explorer Edition are set to launch in India on August 18th and right ahead of the scheduled launch in the country, Madhav Sheth, Vice President, Realme and Chief Executive Officer, Realme India & Europe, has shared that the brand’s Realme X series will be replaced by the GT series. To be specific, Sheth told TechRadar, “The X will be replaced by the GT; so the GT is the new X.” While the other smartphone series from the brand will not be impacted by the GT series launch, this marks the end of the road for the Realme X series, which primarily operated in the affordable mid-range to upper mid-range price category and offered some interesting and great value-for-money offerings in the past.

In the past few years, Realme X series produced some impressive and popular mid-range handsets such as Realme X2 Pro, Realme X3 Superzoom Edition, Realme X7 Pro, and many others. Considering that the Realme GT series seems to be carrying the same ethos as the X series, it makes sense that the brand will be ditching the latter to make space for the former. In case you are wondering what you will get with the GT series, let’s check out the specifications offered by the Realme GT 5G.

Realme GT 5G specifications

Realme GT packs a 6.43-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED panel that houses a 16MP selfie camera within a punch-hole cutout upfront. Just like most premium mid-range phones, the Realme offering also offers a butter-smooth 120Hz display refresh rate. To make the deal even sweeter, the display can achieve 1000 nits of peak brightness and is protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5. At the helm, you will find a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G chipset, coupled with Adreno 660 GPU and up to 12GB LPDDR5 RAM. You are even provided with 256GB of fast UFS 3.1 storage. On the software side, you are greeted with Android 11-based Realme UI custom skin when you first boot up the Realme GT 5G.

A 4,500mAh battery, which might be considered rather small by modern standards, keeps the lights on for the handset but the smaller battery capacity is somewhat compensated with the 65W fast charging support. If you are concerned about connectivity features, well, you shouldn’t be. The phone offers 5G Dual-mode connectivity, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS, 3.5mm headphone jack, and USB Type-C port for charging.

In terms of optics, Realme GT 5G features a triple camera setup on the back. This arrangement includes a 64MP primary shooter, an 8MP wide-angle lens, and a 2MP macro unit. For security, the phone has an in-display fingerprint sensor.
