iPhone 15 series to get higher fast charging speeds than iPhone 14 models: Report
Leaks and rumours are mounting up as we get closer to the iPhone 15 launch. Apple is expected to bring four models, the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max. A leak has now revealed that the new phones may be getting a big upgrade in terms of their charging speeds as compared to the earlier models.
iPhone 15 series to support up to 35W fast charging
Although Apple does not officially promote any fast charging figure with its iPhones, we know that iPhone 14 Pro supports up to 27W fast charging while the iPhone 14 can fast charge at 25W. A report from 9to5Mac reveals that this figure is increasing quite a bit for the first time in the last two generations of iPhones.
The new iPhone 15 series could gain faster charging speeds of up to 35W. However, it is unclear exactly which iPhone 15 models could support it. We expect at least the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max to feature it, based on the precedent set by their predecessors. An earlier report from a rather shoddy source did indicate bigger batteries for the iPhone 15 series.
iPhone 15 series: USB PD charging, USB-C Thunderbolt port
It would not be surprising if the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are upgraded to 27W, which would create a decent amount of distinction between the models while still providing decent speeds to both. It is worth noting that Apple is known to support USB Power Delivery (PD) standards for their fast charging tech. USB PD allows iPhones (or any device that supports the standard, for that matter) to be fast-charged by any PD-certified adapter and cable in the market.
These can be found pretty easily unlike Android manufacturers’ proprietary charging standards and are not on the expensive side. To recall, the iPhone 15 series will also be the first iPhone to feature a USB-C port instead of the proprietary Lightning one and new leaks claim that it delivers transfer speeds of up to 40Gbps thanks to Thunderbolt or USB4 standard.
Last year, Apple launched a 35W Dual Port USB-C charger to the market while it also sells a 30W adapter and these should be the ideal choice for the upcoming devices. The iPhone 15 series is expected to be unveiled by the company at its Apple Park location in California on September 13th alongside Apple Watch Series 9, the second-generation Apple Watch Ultra and AirPods Pro with USB-C charging case.
