Nothing teases something new: could it be the CMF Phone (1)?

Nothing is expected to be working on the CMF Phone (1). We have already come across its purported specifications and design speculations. And although the company hasn’t explicitly announced the device yet, it has teased something now. Take a look:

Is this the Nothing CMF Phone (1) design?

Nothing’s official X handle has posted a photo with the caption 3,2,1 as if it’s a countdown for something. The image seems to show the corner of a dark-coloured device with a screw. It’s weird to see a screw on a modern smartphone but Nothing is known for its quirky designs. And it could be going for a unique design language for the CMF Phone lineup.

As per a new X user Gadget_Bits, this could be the CMF Phone 1 only. The X user has shared a photo of the device which also has the screw on the bottom left corner of its backside.

The phone appears to be covered with some case to hide its full design. The leaker claims the device will ditch Nothing’s signature Glyph interface. From the image shared by Nothing, we figure the device could have textured back.

There is a rumour that the Phone (1) could be similar to Nothing Phone (2a) in some respects. 

CMF Phone (1) could get a 6.67-inch 120Hz OLED display while the Nothing Phone (2a) has a slightly bigger 6.7-inch 120Hz AMOLED panel.

Inside, the CMF Phone is believed to ship with the same MediaTek Dimensity 7200 SoC and Mali-G610 MC4 GPU as the Nothing Phone (2a). However, the accompanying memory configuration appears to be only up to 8GB RAM and 256GB storage while the Nothing Phone (2a) sports up to 12GB RAM+ 256GB storage combination.

The underlying battery could also be 5,000mAh like the Phone (2a), but the charging capacity could be only 33W. That’s slower than 45W on the Nothing Phone. 

The first CMF smartphone could launch with Android 14-based Nothing OS 2.6. Nothing CEO Carl Pei recently teased some design tweaks on the UI front too.

As the alleged CMF Phone (1) image suggests, the device could have 2 cameras on the back led by a 50MP sensor. The Phone (2a), meanwhile has a 50MP main camera and a 50MP ultrawide shooter. The CMF Phone (1) is also rumoured to have a 16MP selfie snapper, which is smaller than the 32MP sensor on the Phone (2a)’s front camera.
