HTC U12+ with Snapdragon 845 and quad cameras goes official

HTC’s upcoming flagship smartphone – the U12+ has been subjected to a number of leaks and reports in the recent past. Now, as expected, HTC has gone ahead and launched the smartphone globally. Notably, the HTC U12+ offers a quad-camera setup and comes powered by the high-end SD845 chipset.

Coming to the spec sheet, the HTC U12+ flaunts a 6-inch Super LCD 6 display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and 2,880 x 1,440 pixels. There is a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 5 layer on top to ensure protection against scratches and minor drops. The flagship also comes with the IP68 rating for dust- and water-resistance. The performance department is handled by the top-of-the-line Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor supplemented by Adreno 630 GPU and 6GB RAM. The smartphone is being offered in two storage variants – 64GB and 128GB. There is a fingerprint scanner at the rear for security purposes.

For imaging, the rear panel of the flagship houses a 12MP UltraPixel 4 primary sensor accompanied by a secondary 16MP telephoto lens. The primary camera has features like dual-LED flash, PDAF, Laser autofocus, OIS, 4K video recording and 240fps slow-mo recording. For selfies and video calling, the HTC U12+ comes with a pair of 8-megapixel cameras on the front with features like real-time bokeh and AR stickers. The handset runs Android 8.0 Oreo-based HTC Sense UI, which comes with Edge Sense 2.0. Along with supporting the ability to open apps by squeezing the sides of the phone, the phone also has sensors to orient the smartphone’s display in portrait even if you’re using it while laying down. The phone is powered by a 3,500mAh battery, which comes with support for Quick Charge 3.0. 

The Taiwanese brand is offering the U12+ in two colour options of black or red. The 64GB variant has been priced at $799, whereas, the 128GB model will set you back by $899. The handset has gone on sale in the US, though there’s no word on its launch in other regions, including India.
