LG V40 to reportedly flaunt five cameras and face unlock capability

“According to a report, LG is planning to implement three cameras at the rear of the V40 and two on the front”

At this year’s MWC in February, LG unveiled the successor to the V30 (review) called the V30S ThinQ. The new V series offering is mostly similar to last year’s V30 in terms of hardware, but comes with enhanced AI features and additional memory and storage options. Now it appears that LG is working on the true successor to the LG V30 in the form of V40. Ahead of the unveiling, Android Police has revealed some key details regarding the camera features of the V40.

According to a source familiar with the brand’s future plans, LG is reportedly planning to implement a whopping three cameras at the rear of the V40 and two on the front. If the report is true, the LG V40 could be the world’s first smartphone to boast five cameras. The source suggests that it is not clear what all of the five cameras will do, but the two on the front could be used for face unlock capabilities. Furthermore, the publication has added that the front cameras will have a stereo configuration that will allow creating a 3D map of the face to be recorded.

As for the rear cameras, the triple camera setup is set to include one LG’s signature ultrawide lens, a standard wide lens, and a third sensor for an as-yet to be determined function. The third camera is expected to be a zoom lens, but it is not clear at the moment. This sensor could just be dedicated to the depth of field effects.

Furthermore, the report has revealed few more details regarding the LG V40. The source suggests that the phone could sport a notch-display, which you will be able to turn off using the interface settings. The flagship is expected to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor. The handset will also get a Quad DAC, a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, and a dedicated Google Assistant button, adds the source.

At the moment, LG hasn’t confirmed the existence of the V40 flagship. However, we expect the company to shed some details regarding its features and launch date in the near future, so stay tuned.
