MEIZU 16 series to reportedly come in Snapdragon 845 and 710 SoC variants
“MEIZU founder Huang Zhang has revealed that the upcoming flagship will feature an under-display fingerprint sensor”
Earlier this year in April, MEIZU marked its 15th-year anniversary by launching the MEIZU 15 and MEIZU 15 Plus smartphones. Barely a couple of months since the launch of the duo, the company seems to be already working on its next-gen flagships. Just a few days ago, the alleged spec sheet of the upcoming MEIZU 16 and MEIZU 16 Plus had leaked on the interwebs. Now, the company’s founder Huang Zhang has revealed some more details about the brand’s forthcoming smartphones.

In a forum post, Zhang confirmed that the MEIZU 16 series phones will come in two variants – one powered by the top-notch Snapdragon 845 SoC and another with a Snapdragon 710 processor. He also stated that the Snapdragon 845 chipset-powered model will be equipped with 8GB of RAM. Zhang has also revealed that the MEIZU 16 will have an under-display fingerprint sensor, just like the recently-launched Vivo NEX and Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition. However, as of now, it’s unclear if both the models will be equipped with this next-gen fingerprint scanning tech. Earlier, the brand’s founder had revealed that the MEIZU 16 series will launch in August, but there’s no word regarding the exact launch date of the device at the moment.
As per the previous leaks, the MEIZU 16 series devices will sport the taller 18:9 edge-to-edge screen with rounded corners. The phone could also feature a dual primary camera setup at the rear, aided by a ring LED flash unit. The MEIZU 16 is said to come with a 5.6-inch OLED screen, while the MEIZU 16 Plus is rumoured to feature a bigger 6.1-inch display.
The MEIZU 16 is rumoured to be launched at the starting price of RMB 2,999 (~Rs 32,000), while the MEIZU 16 Plus is said to be available starting at RMB 3,699 (~Rs 39,000). Going by the recent statements by the brand’s founder, we expect him to continue teasing us with more details about the upcoming MEIZU devices before their launch.
